About Me

Meet Troy

Troy Sapp CPA, CFP® formed Commencement Financial Planning LLC after 14 years of providing comprehensive wealth management, trust administration, estate planinng, and tax compliance services at a multi-generational single family office in the PNW.  There he was taught an objective and consultative approach, not one based on sales.  Troy continues to follow that same objective and consultative approach to providing financial advice.

The client/advisor relationship is unique in that it must involve the client sharing deeply personal information.  To earn each client's trust Troy is committed to forming long term relationships by truly understanding his clients, exceeding their expectations whenever possible, and serving as their true fiduciary.

The client and advisor must feel they are compatible in order for the relationship to be successful.  Troy strives to have an open and cooperative relationship with each of his clients.  Troy is honest and reliable.  He seeks those same qualities in the clients he serves.

Troy works from a home office in University Place/Lakewood.  This is a comfortable environment with a very short commute which also keeps overhead and, in turn, his fees low.  If you are looking for an advisor with an expensive and fancy downtown office, this is probably not your stop.

Fiduciary Pledge

Troy believes in placing client best interests first.  Therefore, he is proud to commit to the following five fiduciary principles:

  • I will always put client best interests first.
  • I will act with prudence; that is, with the skill, care,
diligence, and good judgment of a professional.
  • I will not mislead clients, and I will provide conspicuous, full
and fair disclosure of all important facts.
  • I will avoid conflicts of interest.
  • I will fully disclose and fairly manage, in clients' favor, any
    unavoidable conflicts.

"There are two kinds of investors, be they large or small: those who don't know where the market is headed, and those who don't know that they don't know. Then again, there is a third type of investor - the investment professional, who indeed knows that he or she doesn't know, but whose livelihood depends upon appearing to know."
